PACKED FOR THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME

A plant seed is a suitcase of life packed by the parent plant. On the outside, the seed coat keeps the seed from getting dried out or waterlogged. Inside is everything a new plant needs to spread roots, grow strong, and develop into an adult.

The embryo is the baby plant, in its earliest stages of development. Inside are the radicle and plumule. As the seed germinates, the radicle pops out. It becomes the baby plant’s first root. Other roots branch out and develop as the plant grows and changes. The plumule provides the baby plant’s first shoot. In time, the shoot becomes a stem and leaves.
